I have this to on windows 8 :-( But normally i print from sdcard, so not a big problem.

Try to up your extrution multiplier a bit and maybe put some more permiters on. I use between 3-5 permiters.

For me it works like it should with manual extrusion width, wich did not work in 1.5.5. :-) So i would say it's been fixed.

Earsmith >> that's the other problem. But i the end it all depends on your leadscrew resolution. If does not devide in clean steps you gat z-banding :-(

I run CuraEngine and KISSlicer on RPi. I works fine for most normal jobs. (new slicers are much fast then skienforge or Slic3r) The RPi supports OpenGL ES.
And why would support tell me that it can run on RPi then?
