Re: Backlash Compensation

You don't need backlash compensation on 3D printers. The belts are designed to have nearly zero backlash and the forces are very low compared to milling operations. The main sources for error in 3D printers are flexing of components, linear bearing slop (some printers), temperature effects, setup in...

FEATURE REQUEST - Equivalent filament diameter feedback

I haven't had much trouble just putting in 1.72 mm for everything then adjusting on the fly. However, as I move to 0.1 and lower layer heights the need to have everything dialed in goes up exponentially. That's because each time you half the layer height you double the effects of filament diameter e...

3D CHRISTMAS CARD

I'm not sure how to post a picture in a way that it will show in my message but the link below will show a 3D printed Christmas Card I made. I hope it inspires more ideas. Post yours here too.

Re: z height bed lvl calibration file

I'm not exactly sure what we are going for here but try this one. Everything is labeled. Its small enough that you can print one in each corner of the bed of most printers. Or you can print multiples, each with a different process to see what settings works best. One .STL includes labels. One doesn'...

Some Simplify3D Tips and Tricks

Feel free to post better ways to accomplish the same things. These are a few things I've learned recently that have made my prints look much better. Install the newest version - Simplify 3D 2.0.1 is out . If you have Simplify then download the newest version. I don't know how much better it is but ...

Re: .fff files are not being saved

Yeah, I export it or change the settings on an existing file and then close it and it comes up the way it was even after I used it to create gcode. Is it possible that the old version saved automatically as the values were changed and this version you have to click "save" before it will sa...

.fff files are not being saved

I just switched over to V2.0.0 last night. It seems like I've seen this before in the previous version but my .fff files are not being saved. When I import an old .fff it has different settings (most of the settings are not what I used in the previous session) than were there when I used it to slice...

Re: Bottom Solid Layers

There's a lot of adjustment available via the 3 leveling screws (both for Z offset and leveling). Chances are you don't need to mess with the home switch and can just set Z offset and leveling to where you need them at the same time.

Re: How to use supports in S3d

I couldn't figure out how to use manual supports either. I'll try it again by "clicking on the model". I won't recommend this software until they include decent documentation. Bells and whistles are nice but not worth $125 vs. free if you can't figure out how to use them.
