Obtuse Layer Heights

Why does the software use an odd layer height of .2857mm for medium and .1714 for high? I know there has to be logic to these values, I just don't understand why. I'm using a Makerbot Replicator 1 & Printrbot Jr V2.

Thats not what I was asking. I am asking for a way to have the top and bottom layer direction be different than the infill direction. If you have -45 / 45 in it, which is the default value, both the top and bottom layers and the infill are at -45/45. On MakerWare, top and bottom layer direction are ...

Top/Bottom Layer vs Infill direction

New owner, love the product. I'm struggling figuring out how to make the shells go a different orientation than infill. Since we have to use linear infill, I prefer them to be 90 degrees offset from the shell directions. The infill and top and bottom layers seem to obey the infill directions defined...
