First time using Simplify3D

I bought S3D almost three years ago and then never got my Mach3 printer finished. However my 14 year old grandson is in a STEM program using AutoCAD and Inventor, and has a robotics class too. So a 3D printer seemed like a good Christmas present. I got him a Wanhao I3 Duplicator. He got sick Christm...

Re: raft separation/ model adhesion

Jim,
Does your post mean that STL models that intersect will get printed as if it were a single part? If so I could see that as a very useful.

Re: Experience with S3D after a month

It is good to see that you arrived at that conclusion. I bought it a few months ago but have had issues with my printer as it is a CNC mill with an extruder head and I haven't quite got all the differences resolved yet, and haven't printed anything yet. However what I have seen so far is quite nice....

Re: Weird, bent 3d print

Good news, bad news. First the good news, this problem has been discussed and apparently solved here, as quite few people had this happen. The bad? I don't remember the name of the thread it was in!

On a stepper system of any kind depowering the motors means you are almost guaranteed to lose position, especially if microstepping. There is no encoder feedback for location so the processor only knows where it told the motor to go. If the motor isn't actually in that exact spot then you are screwed.

Re: Found this video

To the four idiots. Nice going guys, someone tells you your favorite software has warts and you make it personal. Another opportunity to improve is lost. Every heard of continuous improvement? How about learning from your mistakes and others? I see the potential in Simplify3D not where it is now. I ...

Re: Found this video

David, I am new to 3D printing, and don't have my own machine running yet. Can you post some pictures of your high quality stuff for reference? Also since you have lots of experience it would be interesting on knowing your thoughts as to why the prints are not as good as you think they should be. Is...

Re: Major bug, x-axis leaning to the right (positive)

I don't have a working printer yet, but I've been following this thread. I've noticed that when everyone says they have looked at the gcode that they have done so using Simplify3D graphical viewer. Has anyone looked the code output using a text editor? I've done that looking to see how I need to imp...

Re: V2.1: Where do you set filament Cost and Currency?

I would guess that if a value can be saved that it gets saved in the XML file. I'd search the XML file for the values. It is possible that the values are there but not actually exposed to the user to change in the user interface. That might be just oversight, I've done that plenty of time on the PLC...

Re: New user printing to Mach 3

JSC, Funny, every forum has told me that someone else will have the answer! However your links did it for me. It turns out that the little test part that I sliced in Simplify3D only put in the E for the retract and reposition at the beginning and end of each layer, not for each line of X,Y code. So ...
