[FIXED] Bridging bug

As a new S3D user (and generally happy with the product), I sliced a model that contained a bridge for the first time over the weekend. The bridge was over the top of a square hole in a wall (i.e. a 3mm wall has a horizontal 15mm square hole in it). My printer is able to bridge quite long distances ...

Re: Start layer blobbing?

Any bridge with a hole in it is going to have problems. Firstly the perimeters of the hole will be printed in mid-air, and secondly there is no way to bridge across the hole so the bridging infill has to stop in mid-air. The usual way to overcome the problem is by making the first bridge layer solid...

Re: Ultimaker 2 Problem with thin walls

This is a common problem and is caused by having a wall that is thinner than 3X perimeter width. Walls thinner than 3X the width of the extruded filament cannot be printed the correct size unless they are an exact multiple of the extrusion width. If you think about it you will see why - if my wall i...

Re: How to solve weak vertical structures

Layer bonding strength is also a factor. A hotter extruder temperature (or slower cooling fan) might give you stronger bonding between layers. I have also found that if printing in ABS, giving the part a generous rub with acetone makes it stronger. The acetone seeps between layers and causes them to...

Re: build placement problem. bug or only me?

It sounds like the XY coordinates of the center of your bed do not match the coordinates that Simplify3D is using. Check your actual bed size is correctly set up in the software, and that your printer homes to the correct coordinates (i.e. moving to X0 Y0 puts the nozzle exactly over the corner of y...

Re: Start layer blobbing?

First, I suggest the OP looks at the custom start code in the slicing software that gives the better results. There may be a command in that which is affecting his results. Also the extruder retraction setting (how much and what speed is the retraction set to?) Some extruder designs require longer r...
