Re: Where can I adapt prefs for "Build statistics"

Just Curious, Have you tried the same plot using the time estimates that Pronterface gives?
I've found it's time estimates are generally quite accurate, but I've only got prints going out
for 6 hours...

How do you calculate Cost of printing time?

I'm not looking for S3D to give a cost. I'm curious how those of you using your machines to print parts for sale price the parts. Weight of part translates into cost of filament. that part's easy... What magic formula do you use for the cost of the machine's time? for example.. let's assume a 40hr w...

how do I set the print direction for top layer?

I'm printing with support. I can set the support layers to print at +/- 45 degrees [support tab] I can set the infill to print at 0/90 degrees, rectilinear infill [infill tab] I'm printing 2 bottom layers and 3 top layers [.3mm layer height, 20% infill] I'd like the top layer to print 0/90 degrees. ...

not getting infill between layers printed at an angle

the part I'm trying to print has thin layers (~.040 in) at an angle. [it was originally made from sheet metal] when I print it there are 2 layers of filament with a gap in between. I have been tweaking various parameters and using the preview to see if I can get those 2 layers to bond together. [I h...

Re: getting rid of 'snot'

JoeJ thanks for the comment. The printer is an 'orphan' - Trinity Labs A1. I'm using a J-head, retract default was set to .8mm it's already been increased to 1mm. what you are implying is that retract is a function of layer height. if that's true (and I'm not arguing it isn't) then the slicer ought ...

Re: "locality" for file saves

JoeJ thanks for the pointer, I had reviewed that document when I first considered buying S3d. the STL files are input to S3D and are saved by my cad software. I would like the Factory and Gcode files saved in the same directory. I run my printer from a memory card, so I also have to save the Gcode i...

incomplete fill, 'funny' layering artifacts

New to S3D, used slic3r over a year. I've got a set of parts that are giving me odd problems and I don't know what to tinker with to fix it. I started getting top layer voids when I used rectilinear infill. [they are small, look closely at the pix] DSCN5929.JPG So I tried concentric infill (the part...

getting rid of 'snot'

DSCN5936.JPG arm.body.all.rz0.factory DSCN5933.JPG New to S3D, used Slic3r for over a year. I've been told what I'm calling 'snot' (see the picture) is excess filament (not enough retract) that winds up creating a 'bump' on the start of a new layer. [I've tried random layer start, that just distrib...

"locality" for file saves

I've got lots of small projects. some involve only a single part, others several. when I set up a project for 3d printing, I create a sub directory in my 3d design file and save all the relevant .stl files there. I like to keep the .factory and .gcode files there as well [.fff files should be stored...
