Re: reduce resolution

Most likely it's my 'Old Man' ignorance as I was born in the 1940's. But, having been an Engineer, Rocket Scientist and Programmer - including writing Gcode for milling machines (and Manager of many departments) for so long (and remembering when I used .STL for the purpose it was created - S tereo L...

Re: Swap filaments during print?

Options to consider... This will depend on your Printer (Brand, Type, Firmware...). I use these options as needed and, which one, depends on what I need and the printer I’m using... Things you’ll need to know: Does your printer respond to a Gcode ‘Pause’ command? Which commands for your printer (M0...

Re: reduce resolution

I've gone through this exercise so many times to produce parts for 3D-printing and CNC milling... Here's the upshot (IMO) I make my own models (generally using FreeCAD or SolidWorks). The CAD software is where the Resolution is dealt with (though some slicers have limited capability, too. Including ...

Re: bad quality on S3D, good quality on Cura

A worst-case of: Difference = Best-Worst Difference = 1.42 - 1.22 = 0.2mm That's the thickness of my Beard Hair. And that's, Best and Worst. What if the values are not at those limits. How about the Average?... How about, 1.42 - 1.18 = 0.24mm = 0.009 inch. ? Thickness of a couple of Hairs... Cura co...

Re: bad quality on S3D, good quality on Cura

I shouldn’t be surprised about this, given that common-sense is not a part of today’s society but, I was born in the 1940’s... Neglecting what can be Googled about the size of Human Hair, I measured my own. Head hair = 0.16mm = 0.006 inch Beard hair = 0.2mm = 0.008 inch Do people really think that p...

Re: Guide for E3D V6 + CR-10S Settings?

Your are correct, PLA is #7 (so small and blury I can barely read/distinguish 1 and 7).

My printers are Hictop 3DP, but, I think, from looking at their other models, they use the same/common Extruder bracket (not 100% sure).

Re: Guide for E3D V6 + CR-10S Settings?

PLA is made from Corn and (specific Brands, if submitted for approval) are approved by FDA for medical implants and Food-Safe use. That crunchy-sounding water bottle you're drinking from is made of PLA. PETG does off-gas and best to open a window. I don't open window in winter and I'm still breathin...

Re: Guide for E3D V6 + CR-10S Settings?

I’ve used several different brands of E3D V6 and settled in on two brands for my two Hictop printers. #2 uses All Metal (no PTFE tube). Perfect for High temp plastics such as PETG and ABS. No clogging and No melted PTFE tube. #1 uses PTFE tube (kit has changeable Metal or PTFE) for PLA printing. I d...

Re: Force outer perimeter to single extrusion

I make lot's, lot's of gears. Using FreeCAD for past 5yrs and the two Gear macro's works great.

Example below.

Regarding printing them, suggest using 3 upper, 3 lower layers, and 1 shell.

Re: Fit parts on print bed

It's pretty simple to crowd the plate without having problems. You paid a lot of money for the freedom of doing stuff other software doesn't easily do. Simply hold-down the command-key and drag a part close to another part and repeat. They don't need a a lot of space between them. Example below (it ...
