I'm having the same issue and using the built in profile for Rostock Max v2 (a delta printer from seemecnc).

I have not changed anything and still get this exceeds build area error.

Thanks for sharing those two methods. Do you know if it is exporting the saved fff profile or the currently in use (modified) one, if you changed something? answered my own question as soon as I opened the export in a text editor. +1 for CLI so we can interface directly in things like OctoPrint. The software should still be able to authenticate itself during the install, then calling the CLI afterwords.
