Re: Internal structure is affecting my perimeter quality! Ha

Thanks, I'm seeing a little vertical separation and I'll try out hotter for that. I just didn't want to increase the temp when my main problem was leaving melted plastic walls. But now I've solved one problem I can start on another!

Re: Internal structure is affecting my perimeter quality! Ha

Well I think I've fixed it about as well as it can be fixed. Fixing the cad so the internal walls didn't overlap with the perimeter helped quite a bit (I'm looking at you S3D for this one) and I've increased the travel speed up to 150mm/sec and increased retraction distance too to keep it clean. Hop...

Re: Internal structure is affecting my perimeter quality! Ha

Update: I have not tried the last two things I mentioned as I was playing with S3D to figure out what else I could do. I'm leaning towards a Z-lift move since nothing else I do in the software will avoid all the travel above the perimeter. I've also realized the internal structure (an extruded cut i...

Re: Internal structure is affecting my perimeter quality! Ha

Additional note: S3D FFF file is on that thingiverse link too. I'm going to try the "Random starting point" option to avoid the movement over the perimeter next. We'll see.

Re: Internal structure is affecting my perimeter quality! Ha

Update: I forced S3D to get rid of most of the retractions for this part and it looks a bit better. At least it feels more structural (the old wall flaked a lot, this one less so), but the part with the internal structure still isn't perfect. There are striations that visually align with the support...

Internal structure is affecting my perimeter quality! Halp

I've designed a sword for a cosplay i'm working on which has an internal channel to thread an LED strip. Unfortunately my print has scarred and brittle walls... but only where there is internal structure. The same print has a column of just hollow material which prints beautifully, on every single l...

Re: Sharp corner problems

I purposely turned off the infill to figure out what those extra bits were. You are absolutely right that they are bottom layers, which I find extremely strange, as they are not in the bottom. I can turn it up and get what looks like extra internal perimeters so that they won't be tiny blobs. I'll g...

Re: Sharp corner problems

Sorry for the lapse but I tried a few more times with lower and lower temp with no success and I got frustrated and I haven't printed in a while now. I decided to go back to it today and I think I can still lower the temperature a little more but after looking at S3D closer I'm more convinced it's t...

Re: Sharp corner problems

Thanks for the replies guys. I do have the fan going at full speed. I printed another temperature tower without the fan with not as clean results. Regarding the hot layer hypothesis I'm unconvinced since printing the tower (which is a much smaller area layer area) prints fine. The gear print spends ...

Sharp corner problems

I'm having issues printing sharp overhang corners, specifically those of these heart gears . I thought it was an overhang thing or that it needed tweaking the temperature so I did a temperature tower - 225 to 210 and all of the overhangs look good. I thought it might be acceleration so I have gcode ...
