"combine layers" for solid, just as for infill & support

There are a variety of reasons why it's good to be able to "combine layers" for Support and for regular Infill. For example 0.1mm layers print very slowly and make terrible flaky support and infill structure. I would have no problem printing those at 3x so 0.3mm height. Well the same principles appl...

Thanks for the clear explanation.

question about Profiles

I've been using S3d for many years and still have no idea what happens to my settings! Have a saved factory file in which I do all my work. Have create a profile called "ABS Railcore" which is saved and contains, amongst other things, my latest Start and End Scripts. Just tried creating a new Factor...

Re: Stiffer Raft?

Create two printing processes. In the one intended to slice the Raft part of the Model set "Stop printing at height X" (in the Advanced Tab). In the one for the part (the upper part of the Model) set "Start printing at height X" in it's Advanced Tab. Ensure you slice the entire Model using both proc...

Re: Stiffer Raft?

Yes, having a hot enclosure is non-trivial. My coreXY machine has steppers outside the build volume, except the extruder motor. It seems to cope at 60C ambient but more intrepid Railcore users have upgraded to a stepper that has special high temperature windings. I find my belts tighten at higher te...

Re: Stiffer Raft?

How hot is your enclosure?

My Railcore has a part-insulated enclosure and reaches 60C with the heated bed at 100C. Stratasys uses a 100C ambient for ABS (and doesn't bother with a heated bed).

fan on outer layer of support

One of the parameters that can influence how "stuck" the outer layer of support becomes to the layer of part above or below it is whether and how much fan is being used. This is particularly noticeable when there is little or no fan. Might it be useful to be able to configure fan specifically for th...

beta testing

Out of curiosity, who does beta testing for S3d? Is it done "in house" by the programmers or marketing department? Is there a select group of trusted long term users? Is a specialist testing company employed? Curious because a slicing is such a complex and multi-faceted activity and the software ref...

Re: Show in Preview -> Coloring: COOLING

Great idea!

Or failing that, some other visual or numerical representation of what the part fan is going to be doing.

It's useful to be able to set the fan speed by layer time but we don't know what the layer time is going to be without running the print.

indicate in models list if model is Scaled

Changing the Scale of a Model is tantamount to changing the Model itself. Once one starts playing with Scaling it's hard to keep track of what one has and hasn't done. Unlike changing the rotation or position of a model on the build plate, scaling (particularly when used to compensate for filament t...
