Re: PETG hair

jimc had very helpful info - that the burned pieces are not really from the hairs, but rather because of overextrusion. Although I tried reducing the extrusion until it was clearly too low, I was only paying attention to the hairs while I was doing that test. Lower extrusion did nothing to reduce th...

The filament is Inland 1.75mm PETG from Micro Center. The pictures are translucent magenta - but same thing on other colors - at least translucent ones. My understanding is that this is rebranded eSun. I am currently printing at 250C. Tha...

Re: PETG hair

Hmmm.... I might be out of luck then. It isn't the retract. I can use anywhere from my standard retract (2.8mm) to three times that without any change. I take that to mean that the standard value is already accomplishing what can be done with retract. Changing the temperature doesn't help either. I ...

PETG hair

Is there anyone out there who prints a lot of PETG who has found a setting in S3D that reduces angel hair? I am talking about the super fine hairs that you get with PETG - not stringing related to travel moves/retraction. I know that I can remove it from prints by applying a bit of heat after the pr...

Re: Curing ABS "bow" Near the Bed

I can't say for sure if this is the reason for what you are seeing, but here are some things that might be worth thinking about... I print mostly with ABS on a heated bed without a heated build chamber. I have a silicone heater attached to a thin sheet of aluminum. On top of that is a sheet of boros...

Re: Thinning extrusion problem - cause?

I set the extrusion width to auto. That made no difference. It really shouldn't since the manual width was not much higher than the auto value, but figured it was worth a shot anyway. I also thought maybe the cooling - as slight as it is - was causing a problem. I know that the upper parts of this m...

Thinning extrusion problem - cause?

IMG_1013[1].JPG Can someone tell me what causes the problem shown in the picture? I have tried to print this object about 100 times now - all with approximately the same issue. The three perimeter walls become thinner and thinner as the object builds upwards, leading to either complete failure of t...

Re: Feature request: Seperate retract/recover speed controls

+1 You want to retract as fast as possible. You cannot really recover at that same speed because the filament needs to melt on recover. Although the extra ooze features in Simplify3D are nice, they do not compensate for the lack of this feature. Without a separate recover speed, you would get better...

Re: Rerap MarlinSupport

My main printer is one I built myself that uses an AzteegX3 controller running Marlin firmware. Simplify3D works fine with it. Simplify3D will not directly support the firmware retraction that is in Marlin. The only reason that I would care about that is that firmware retraction allows a different s...
