Those are definitely stress marks from the ABS cooling and popping off the bed. The only way to get rid of them is as you said, heating them. I'm using v3.0.2 and totally love it, but I have a consistent problem with the top surface being marked by the nozzle. This is true on my MakerBot 2X, Ultimaker 2 and Dremel Idea Builder. I have not printed with PetG, but if it has similar print characteristics as PLA then you won't be able to print it with the stock 2X extruder cooling block. I had to install this to print PLA, maybe the same issue with PetG.
