I have seen the same thing with a number of prints, mostly vases. Simplify3D creates artificial planes within the open space and fills them in. I think this was one of them: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:126567

I agree that the Slic3r approach to accepting setting values as either absolute or percentage is pretty useful in many places.

I have a similar experience to Phillip. I've used Slic3r for a long time (with Repetier Mac) for my first printers, then recently got a TAZ 5 and began using the Lulzbot Cura since that had the profiles builtin. I recently purchased S3D since I read good things about it, and have only made one print...
