Re: Tip of the Day 19 - Additions Tab, a technical analysis

The separation distance has to be some function of layer thickness. If I have a layer thickness of .1mm or 1mm, isn't that going to have a huge impact on the right separation distance? Can someone give me a ballpark separation distance in terms of % of layer height? I'm guessing around 50% of layer ...

Re: Mystery pauses in extrusion.

Region 1 was fine. When it got to region 2, I heard a periodic clicking sound and it seemed that the extruder did a short, fast retraction of the filament, then proceeded to extrude at the normal rate. This caused gaps. This happened on long, straight infill lines, resulting in about 20% of the lin...

Mystery pauses in extrusion.

This is a very strange recurring problem I've had on my 3dp1000 that I've been using with Simplify version 3.1.0, especially on big prints. I'm using UltiMachine PLA. The extrusion worsens, stops, and then restarts. A solution would be great, but at this point I'd be happy just to get a good idea wh...

Re: Tip of the Day 4- Layer tab, a technical analysis

First Layer Speed: Slows down the First Layer Speed to a percentage of your Default Printing Speed (Other tab) I just found out an important caveat to this. Your first layer print speed will me the HIGHER of these two values: (Layer Tab > First Layer Speed % )*(Other Tab > Default Printing Speed) (...

Re: First Layer Speed Doesn't Track Setting [updated]

For whatever reason, the cooling maximum slowdown defines the minimum speed that any override will slow down to. So if you lower your cooling speed override to 1% and it will slow down. Really? That is super weird. Well I just went to COOLING > SPEED OVERIDES > ALLOW SPEED REDUCTIONS DOWN TO and ch...

First Layer Speed Doesn't Track Setting [updated]

The First Layer Speed adjustment on the Layer tab isn't working as advertised. In the attached file, I have the default printing speed set to 2500 mm/min, and the First Layer Speed set to only 1% . When you preview the G-Code, the SECOND layer prints at 2500 mm/min, but the first layer is shown to p...

Re: Raft Failure with Dual Process Build.

This is a known issue with the software where a raft is generated based on what the profile will be printing...and not the whole of the part. A solution is to add a throwaway part to generate the raft where you want it. I've added a deformed cube to the attached factory file that creates the raft.....

Raft Failure with Dual Process Build.

I'm trying to do something like this: https://www.simplify3d.com/support/articles/different-settings-for-different-regions-of-a-model/ Where I have slow, thin layers to make the bottom of my part clean, then thicker, faster layers to speed up completion of the part. Here is the final path plan with ...

Top layer of raft bonds poorly

I'm experiencing a problem where a 100% infill top raft layer comes out stringy and bonds very poorly to the underlying raft. What can I do to 'bulk up' the top layer of the raft? The 100% infill on the part itself comes out rock solid (red circle), but the same 100% infill on the top layer of the r...
