top layer over sparse infill

Hi. When I get a new filament I print a few test pieces. One of them is a step shape to allow fine adjustment of the extrusion rate. I am having great trouble getting a good top surface in PETg (2 brands). Have tried just about every setting. The problem seems to be at the edges of the top layer whe...

Re: Better feedback on feature requests posted here....

I do find it quite shocking that the s3d team hardly ever chip in with any discussions. Even the free 'one man' outfits like Repetier and Octaprint you can expect a reply form the developer within 24 hours. If there is apathy from the users on this forum its because they realize quickly that its mos...

Re: Localised infil

Ive had a bit of spare time to try that suggestion on the sample wing. In Solidworks I split the airfoil into 3 parts with the middle part containing the spar tube. Strangely, with all 3 parts imported in s3d the 'align model origins' worked on 2 parts but the trailing edge stubbornly kept aligning ...

Re: Localised infil

Those pieces are simply parallel test parts. The real wing would change with span (z height) in size, shape, twist and cutouts. It would not be that simple (at least for me) to directly write my own gcode.

Re: Lightweight internal support options

This post in in the feature requests so its directed optimistically at the developers who seem to to have no time to comment on requests that may make the product better. C-line, I admit I didn't see your reply as I had been eagerly awaiting a comment for several days and as yours came in after 12 d...

Re: Localised infil

C-line, Ive tried that suggestion and while it kind of works for some parts its far from ideal. The main problem being accurate alignment of the multiple parts. I see that there is a discussion about aligning part origins with autodesk but its fairly lengthy process. S3d could benefit from allowing ...

Lightweight internal support options

All the options for internal support virtually double the wall thickness for single perimeter objects. See the 'grid' option below. When trying to print extremely lightweight parts this will have a huge impact. I would like to see some support options with minimal tracking along perimeter walls. Thi...

Localised infil

Hi. Ive been trying a few ways to print an aerofoil section for a wing. Two main methods:- 1. design the wing as solid and let S3d hollow it out with sparse infill http://i1362.photobucket.com/albums/r685/VinceHolden/airfoil1_zpsgdbxma3z.jpg 2. design it as a 'shell' in CAD and print it 'as is' http...

Re: some ideas

Agree, slower speed on top layers, and avoid crossing top layers as it often leaves a line.
