The code is available online, could be added as a feature, a bit like making pictures 3D. I don't think it modifies the mesh, because the code processes directly the Gcode, not the STL. So it could be "visible" in the Gcode viewer part.
Either way, I would simply LOVE to see that!

+1 I usually put a flat square piece under tall supports, but I find the idea of the 2 processes the best, because it doesn't disrupt any other setting and you don't need to re-arrange the models if you move the main one. The suggestion is to make it a tick-box option on the lines of: [✓] dense base...

Yes, totally a great idea. It was published on a paper, Prusa implemented on Slic3r, would be great if Simplify stepped up!
