Re: Request for an honest update

I've spend a lot of time using PrusaSlicer (PS) lately. It does some things better than S3D, and I tend to use it for general printing more than S3D now. I don't like the way it organizes and saves jobs internally. They split a print job into Print, Filament & Printer settings, but some of the p...

Re: OK, Time to Start Yet Another "Where is Version 5? " Thread

There are occasional signs of life. The Blog had a new posting just a week ago: "Top 10 Tips of 2021". If the company was struggling to stay afloat, why would they waste time & resources on something like that...? It's all very bizarre. To paraphrase the old carol: "All I want for...

Re: Will there ever be any updates?

I have spent a lot of time with PrusaSlicer, and SuperSlicer still uses the same organization of settings, which I do not like. For example, they have retraction as a printer setting, not a filament setting. If I change filament, I have to remember to go in & change that in the printer settings....

Re: Outlines have gaps

I have battled this problem off & on for years. It's highly model dependent. Here is a very lengthy discussion of what I tried to fix it, and what I found out: https://forum.simplify3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=16041 The bottom line is that there are some model configurations where S3D does not do a g...

Re: Will there ever be any updates?

Don't be too hard on Jake. He's doing his best to help with day to day problems, and is clearly under a gag order from the higher-ups. "A fish rots from the head..." The slipped schedules, empty promises and appalling lack of communication is entirely a management problem.

Re: "Choose Start Point Closest to Specific Location" HOW?

There may be a way to get a more accurate result, but it's usually not necessary. Most of the time you use this feature so the "seam" is parked at a corner where it won't show. The grid on my bed is marked off in 25 mm increments. Unless you need an absolutely precise location, you can est...

Re: OK, Time to Start Yet Another "Where is Version 5? " Thread

I am now using PrusaSlicer quite a bit, but it is missing a lot of nice features that S3D has. The S3D control panel is still what I use to change filaments, and the ability to set a start location with coordinates is another. It's also much easier to print a series of test articles, each with a sli...

Re: Loose seams. Missing part

I've had issues with .STL files from Sketchup. They look OK, but they don't slice well. I'm not sure if some of the "repair" programs available will help or not.

Re: Simplify 3D- One computer/ Two MakerGear M2's

I only have a single M2, but ANYTIME anything messes with the ports, the connection goes down. I only print using SD cards, with the printer disconnected from the computer. I've lost too many prints when Microsoft decides to mess with the USB ports in the middle of a print, even when I'm printing fr...
