Re: How to make the stringing stop

It turned out not to be related to the software. Once I had both programs set up the same way, they both behaved the same. That is, with vertical lift turned on, I get bad stringing. With vertical lift turned off, I get no stringing. No amount of tweaking (retraction parameters, vertical lift distan...

Re: How to make the stringing stop

It must be because the profile name is local. Mine says "QIDI Tech x-one" which started by me selecting my printer and I have since modified some parameters and saved (as I see improvements). I've tried 180, 195, and 205 for temps and didn't see any difference so I surmised going between t...

Re: How to make the stringing stop

Can you print the attached model and post the factory file file > save factory file as >> nameofyourchoice. string_test_fast_pyramid.stl Sure. That's the stl I've been using. I've attached the factory file. After many iterations, the attached produces the best results I can get with vertical lift e...

Re: How to make the stringing stop

OK, the results are in. I used the dehydrator on two PLA filaments, dehydrating for 16 hours (until the filament weight stabilized/stopped dropping). I only got about 1.2 to 1.4g of water out of each roll of filament and the end results after printing with the dehydrated filament: absolutely no diff...

Re: How to make the stringing stop

Buy one of these, dry you PLA over night at 135-140F and your strings will be gone.. Also works for ABS at 165F When not drying plastic, you can make jerky! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008H2OEKK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 That's worth a try. I'm ready to buy it if it'll ...

zemlin wrote: Thu Apr 19, 2018 10:55 pm Sounds like you might be running a real slow retraction speed. What's that set to?
40mm/s speed, 5mm distance, per QIDI Tech.

Re: How to make the stringing stop

I made a little progress. After watching the preview in slow motion, I discovered that when in wipe mode, it would wipe all the way around the circumference of the string test towers until it got back to the starting point (I'm using the little pyramid test from thingiverse). That's not ideal since ...

Re: How to make the stringing stop

Z-Lift can allow for Ooze, as you're raising the nozzle away from the outline before crossing it. Adding Wipe would potentially then cover discarding any filament left in the nozzle that didn't get retracted with the initial pull of the retraction. Try turning on "Wipe" in the Extruder ta...

Re: How to make the stringing stop

OK, well it would seem I'm between a rock and a hard place and it isn't software related. If I use any z-lift, even 0.2mm, that gets rid of the nozzle drag on the top layer but then I get stringing. If I don't use z-lift, I get no stringing but the top layer gets scratched by the nozzle in a couple ...
