Re: Dense Infill to support Top Solid Layers

So far it was all just words, and I wanted to demonstrate this, so I ran a test. Test consisted of a 50x50mm cube printed 5mm tall. I printed it with two perimeters. I duplicated it, and set up different processes so I could test two of these cubes side by side during the same print. All layers were...

Re: extra "top" layers to next infill wall to support new walls

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1280x1024q90/924/3irRYp.jpg Perfect illustration of my point. In the photo above, this little slot is printed in a body that will ultimately be much taller than the bottom of the slot. The bottom of that slot are actually "top" layers of the final object...

Re: how common is it to change the extrusion multiplier?

It's my strong opinion that the number of variables in play should be minimized as much as possible. Figure out the esteps number that results in as close to exactly as long a piece of filament is extruded as it is told to do, first and foremost. If you command it to extrude 100mm and it actually ex...

Re: auto layer height to get perfect top layer height each time

Depending on the steps of the stepper motor or whether it's geared and its gear ratio, the feed rate of the Z axis screw, etc. this could prove problematic for people. For instance, it's always been my custom to use as my layer height some integer multiple of native base layer height that depends on...

extra "top" layers to next infill wall to support new walls

1op layers over infill, over which new perimeter walls will be printed, are extended until they reach the next infill wall (so they have something to stick to and aren't left hanging in thin air). This could be a checkable option right next to the top layer count option. Imagine two cubes stacked, t...

Re: Multi processes by layer

I wholeheartedly support this. I use processes fairly liberally, and it's a PITA to have to do some math to figure out what to set as my start and stop heights. I typically decide on my process boundaries by clicking "prepare to print" and then stepping up and down through the 3D print pre...

Re: Dense Infill to support Top Solid Layers

One thing to remember is that this would be most effective if all of the lines of the existing infill at whatever density you specified are also used by the higher infill percentage, plus whatever new lines come from the higher density. In your proposed scheme of 20% -> 40% -> 60% -> 80%, you'd lose...

Re: Dense Infill to support Top Solid Layers

TL;DR: auto-generated denser infill layers prior to printing top layers over thin air would decrease the number of top layers that must be specified in order to successfully bridge the infill air gaps and get completely filled, non-drooping top layers, saving both printing time and filament usage. L...
