Other slicers that support opening STEP ultimately just convert them to a mesh (STL) internally. However, the convenience of directly opening a STEP is far better than STL.

I think the right move for Simplify3D going forward, after being silent about an update for years, is to issue a statement (apology) for doing this to the customers and OEM's with a commitment to transparency. Add a tab somewhere in the interface that allows us to access the native web interfaces of various systems. Mainsail, Fluid, OctoPrint, Repetier, Duet Web Control all come to mind. Yes, 100% needed to complement the recent top layer settings. This is what's holding print quality back from being on par with open source IMO.
