Re: Guide for Calibrating for Dimensional Accuracy

I'd start with calibrating your printer... check that a movement of 100mm in each axis is producing the proper results. Then check filament extrusion amounts. And finally tweak with S3Ds horizontal size.

Re: Simply fix to increase strength of Infill

You've done a disservice to your client. Strength of part comes from the design... not the infill. Relying on infill alone to create strength is... well lazy. First and foremost, design the part properly. This should incorporate the characteristics of the material used for printing. Then slice the p...

Re: Support generated outside of skirt?

This is pretty common. Its never been a problem for me though. Seems as though the skirt and brim only apply to areas of the project touching the bed. My guess is its calculated based on the outline of the initial layer and does not take into consideration the overall size of the project. Would be c...

Re: Strange, parts disappear in the preview and print mode

Most likely a problem with the STL. In the main screen, use the "Repair" ->"Identify Non-Manifold Edges".

Other times I've seen this is when printing walls thinner than the set extrusion width.

Re: Skirt alternative - Straight line?

I use the following start script on my Printrbot Simple Metal: G1 Z.19; move to first layer height G1 X140 Y2 F5000.000 ; move to front right corner start G1 X140 Y32 E2 F2000.000 ; Line 1 G1 X142 Y32 E.5 F5000.000 ; Shift 1 G1 X142 Y2 E2 F2000.000 ; Line 2 G1 X141 Y2 E.5 F5000.000 ; Shift 2 G1 X140...

Re: Execute terminal commands after the print finishes/stops

I've been using a motion sensor to turn off the printer after a certain period of inactivity. The motion sensor sits under my print bed, when it stops moving a script is kicked off to turn the machine off after 20mins. Its saved a lot of late nights waiting for prints to end in the early morning. PS...

Re: Simply fix to increase strength of Infill

That's probably true... so to truly build a solid infill wall, you need to ensure that the X/Y speed is appropriate. So if normally 6000mm/min a decrease to 5800mm/min would be about 80%. Modifying the infill width still seems to be the easiest way to create the solid wall infill... for every machin...

Re: Simply fix to increase strength of Infill

Increasing the infill width helps me achieve a solid wall for infill. I print primarily in ABS, so use very little cooling from the fan. I'm guessing this helps the extruded filament bond to the previous layer even it wasn't the immediately adjacent layer. The other thing to consider is the flow rat...

Re: Rounded Overhangs Not Printing

I've had similar problems with rounded overhangs... and really haven't found an answer. But now that its a topic, I'd like to contribute to the troubleshooting. - What infill percentage are you using? My machine bridges pretty well, so I had mine set to 10-15%. A higher percentage may create a bette...

Re: Problems Removing Raft

I've just started playing with rafts on my TAZ5. I'm getting good results with a separation of .4. There is still some of the raft sticking , but I've noticed its the areas where filament accumulates... basically, the edges of the project, or holes within the bottom surface. With that said, it seems...
