multiple windows open at the same time

We're all used to multitasking. Having many apps running on the go and many windows in each app. Maybe even having a window with a second operating system running in it and a whole more apps and windows. In the context of that it's a bit of a limitation only being able to open one S3D window at a ti...

Gravity: dense infill requirements above and below are not the same

The purpose of Dense infill is to enable regular infill to be as light and airy (fast to print, consume little material & easy to break away) as possible. To effectively span and fill the gaps at the top of such a regular infill may require many layers of dense infill (eg 5 layers). Because at first...

the way first layer speed settings work....

In my experience: 1) when printing a first layer slowly, this is of particular importance for fine, delicate features and the perimeters which go down first, as well as for the ends of lines when there are changes of direction. However it's of lesser importance when laying down large areas of parall...

Re: additional "features" mysteriously appeared on part?

That's a good fix.

Thanks.

Too bad didn't spot it before printing.

additional "features" mysteriously appeared on part?

My print is underway and have noticed that there are additional traces present on the top layer that are apparent in the slicer (didn't notice them), but are neither present in the part nor visible in the mesh. Any ideas what might be going on? (Attached photo from slicer, screenshot of mesh and fac...

Re: Extrusion width control specifically for Generated Support

This is more important than it may sound to some.

In a one-extruder setup there are parts that you cannot print with a wide extrusion width because the associated support material would be too strong to break away. Been there done that.

increases in first layer height added to height of part

Earlier had noticed that a first layer height of 150% would add 0.1mm to the height of the part. Assumed that Simplify3d was nonetheless doing its best to get as close to the part height with an integral number of layers (and that no adaptive layer heights had ever been implemented - that would be g...

Re: how to manage support separation when printing at large layer heights?

In the end the best I could do in this situation was to get rid of the dense support layer that assures the best finish and print with just basic support at a medium density and NO SEPARATION. There was no problem detaching these large strands of plastic but the finish was not as good as it could ha...

extra slow speed for external solid infill

Currently there's one underspeed setting for solid infill. If you make it slow so that you can have a super-nice top layer well all those internal layers of solid infill at the bottom and top of the part are going to bE VERY SLOW TO PRINT. Ideally there would be an underspeed setting for "solid infi...
