Re: Add object specific comments before gcode blocks

Here is a proof-of-concept that I just put together in a few hours.

https://pastebin.com/dvfuuna0

It has the basics and in this case I am just skipping the process 'P2'. Missing a retraction, but that could be configurable in settings.

Re: Add object specific comments before gcode blocks

I think it would likely get reasonable use. I generally don't print more than 5 models at a time. Setting up 5 process for each model takes maybe 2 minutes, which is nothing compared to time wasted due to one object failing. Again, in the case of sequential prints it would save tons of time. I think...

Re: Add object specific comments before gcode blocks

I think the point would be that the plugin could be made to work now for processes. This would still be very useful if you were doing sequential printing for example. You could just skip to the next process. The other thing would be that it can be made customizable (at least by allow the user to def...

Re: Add object specific comments before gcode blocks

No. I just made some modifications to src/util/comm.py of octoprint to demonstrate that it can work. I don't quite have the skills to do a full-blow plugin. There is a thread on the octoprint forum where it is being discussed.

Re: Add object specific comments before gcode blocks

Yes, that would be even nicer. Right now, you can sort of get the same effect if you just use unique process for each object. I've done basic testing with a modified OctoPrint and you can indeed skip all objects related to that process.

Add object specific comments before gcode blocks

Not sure how easy this would be to implement, but It could be very useful to add some object-specific flag before each block of gcode, similar to what already happens when processes are switched. This might allow some printer control software that parses gcode (octoprint) to cancel specific objects ...

Re: Raft for support only

I think the support base layers work as it should: it does not put support base layers on supports that originate on the model. However, the dense support layers will put dense supports at both the top and bottom of supports that originate on the model.

Re: support structure direction

Printing spheres is tricky. I usually put a basket of supports around the spherical region. This way if there is any wobble on the relatively small contact surface at the bottom , it won't detach.

Do not prompt option for unit scaling

I often import a large number of small models at one time. It is a bit annoying to have to click through each one to cancel the attempted unit change. There is already an option to automatically scale without prompting, it seems it would be just as easy to add a tick box to not prompt.
