Re: Slicer Speed Test Results

Perhaps I am missing something, but I installed the version of Slic3r upsm mentioned here: Note that while Prusa fork of the Slic3r is properly advertised, maybe even advertised "too much" if that's possible, there's older, much better fork of the Slic3r that does this variable layer heigh...

Re: Slicer Speed Test Results

Thanks for that info - I was not aware of that version. I'll check it out and update my blog page; it should be interesting to see how it compares with the Prusa version.

Slicer Speed Test Results

Recently I did test comparing slicing speeds for the 3 slicers I have: Simplify 3D, Craftware, and the Prusa version of Slic3r. I found the results to be quite interesting and posted a blog page with the results. You can find the page here: http://birkbinnard.com/blog/slicer-speed-test/

Re: Single Nozzle Multiple Extruders

I don't completely understand your question, but preparing the printer for the first tool change does require pre-loading filament from both extruders into the Y connector. I found that when S3D starts a print it expects the hotend to be fully loaded with filament from Extruder 0. So what I did was ...

Re: Dynamic layer thickness

For a slicer that costs so much more money than the many very capable free ones I think dynamic/variable layer thickness is exactly the kind of capability we should expect.

Where's the beef?

Re: Request for .3MF Support

I stopped using free NetFabb - both stand alone and on the MS Azure site) months ago and switched to 3D Builder exclusively. I've never had a problem with saving my corrected and simplified files at STL files. Maybe you have to be running native Windows 10 for this - which I do.

Re: Single Nozzle Multiple Extruders

I have done some experimenting with dual extruder/single nozzle 2-color printing and I have not had to use any custom GCode at all. The S3D FFF Settings/Advanced/Tool Change Retraction settings handled everything just fine. After using the Dual Extrusion Wizard to load the 2 parts of my test piece (...

Re: Free gcode editor

I tried it on a 4.8MB Gcode file and it was hideously slow to complete loading /displaying the file. And this is on a Win10 3GHz i7 system. I gave up trying to do anything because every time I tried to do anything it went into "Not responding" state.
