Re: Bridging Issues with PETG

Thanks for the suggestions. When I revisit this, I will probably make up a dedicated bridging model that is much simpler. At present, my setup can't really do a clean job going more than a few mm, so it doesn't need to be very big. The idea of trying to test over more than a centimeter is a pipe dre...

Re: Bridging Issues with PETG

I would much prefer to make one change at a time, but I don't have time to get that fussy at the moment. Because I can see what is going on with both the perimeter & the fill areas separately, I wasn't too worried about it. The goal was to get in the ball park & I can fine tune later. I ended up lea...

Re: Bridging Issues with PETG

Well, I can assure you that going TOO slow with PETG doesn't work. I dropped the bridging speed down to 25%, and things definitely got worse. I'm going to try a few more experiments, and then I need to switch over to PLA for another job. I haven't played much with the bridging extrusion multiplier y...

Re: Bridging Issues with PETG

Report from the battlefield: There seems to be be two theories about bridging with PETG: 1) Go fast to maintain some tension on the material so it won't sag while it cools 2) Go slow, so it will cool in place and not sag. My first set of parameters used the "fast" approach, because someone else had ...

Re: Bridging Issues with PETG

I did some more digging. I'm using version 4.0 of S3D. In the preview mode, I can see that it it properly detecting that it needs to bridge, but it's not automatically aligning the bottom fill with the bridge direction the way it's supposed to. I turned on the "Use fixed bridging angle" setting (usi...

Bridging Issues with PETG

I'm trying to dial in bridging settings for HatchBox PETG on a MakerGear M2E. I started by doing a calibration for the extrusion multiplier using a single wall cube, and came up with 0.86. This is with a 0.35mm nozzle, shooting for 0.45 mm width with 0.25 mm layer thickness. This was a bit tricky, b...

Re: Getting Rid of Blobs With PETG?

Ah! I didn't know that was an option. I'm still very new to S3D. In any event, I chopped off all but the top half inch or so of my model & trimmed it down to one corner where I see a lot of issues. It's working nicely as a test vehicle. I've cranked the "coast" setting up to 1.5mm. Any higher and I ...

Re: Getting Rid of Blobs With PETG?

I've done some digging, and it looks like the magic parameter is going to be "Coast", possibly balanced with tweaks to the Restart Distance, both of which I have turned off at the moment. Does anyone have suggestions for values to start with? I've seen coast numbers for PETG anywhere from 0.2 to 1 m...

Getting Rid of Blobs With PETG?

I have a MakerGear M2E, and I'm printing with HatchBox PETG. It's working pretty well, but I'm getting blobs of extra material in places. It is quite repeatable, so it's not a filament issue. I can see in the S3D preview mode exactly where they are occurring. It shows up as a small speed up in the e...

Re: Small X&Y Layer Shift in Mid-Print?

Have you read this? https://www.simplify3d.com/support/print-quality-troubleshooting/#layer-shifting-or-misalignment Yes, but I don't think it quite applies, other than that my nozzle may be whacking into the print and is getting knocked slightly out of position. I ran a test yesterday, with exactl...
