Requesting a feature addition/change which will automatically change the Retraction Vertical Lift setting based on the Primary Layer Height.
  • Dynamic Retraction Vertical Lift ________% (Percent of Primary Layer Height) (expected values of 0% - 1000%)
Having this be dynamic will mean there is one less setting to change whenever a user changes their layer height and/or nozzle diameter.

What is this going to solve? The main reasons people use vertical lift is to reduce scarring and breaking parts free from the bed. Vertical lift is the distance it hops over the current layer, so having a percentage of that layer makes no sense. Regardless if you’re printing at 0.1mm or 0.3mm layers, your vertical lift should be the same. It’s not a variable that should changes with layer height or nozzle diameter(in moderation). I feel this being a worthless feature and a waste of S3D’s time.

I agree with Ret. This seems counter intuitive.
You set vertical lift, if you even use it, to a specific distance that the printer can work with then leave it. Some printers, such as ones here the bed moves in the Z axis, do not work so well with vertical lift while others do.

I don't really see what layer height or nozzle size has to do with anything in relation to vertical lift.

Thanks for the feedback and request guys! Our team appreciates the thoughtful discussion surrounding retraction vertical lift. It sounds like the community may not be fully on board with this feature request. I'll keep an eye on your thread to see if this perception changes over time.

Thanks again!
