I know this may technically-speaking be asking for a lot, but I think it would make S3D really a cut above other slicers if it had the capability to more easily let you mate STL parts like assemblies. In the case of the DS9 model here for instance, my workflow would now be to bring the models into CAD and rebuild my print into a single STL file.

Hi,

What is the end goal of making it a single model? If you want to be able to move it all as a single object, you can already do this by selecting the models you want to move together and then going to Edit > Group Models or CTRL + G. This will allow you to resize, move, and rotate as a group.

Here's more on grouping: https://www.simplify3d.com/support/vide ... ng-models/

Please let me know if this isn't the functionality you were requesting, as I'd love to better understand in that case.

Making it a single model as in, rather than printing all the parts separately for a table or a chair, just print the table or the chair. In essence you’re arranging the base parts into the final target piece ahead of time in the slicer so they are printed as a single unit without joins or manual assembly processes.

I believe you can already combine multiple bodies into a single model by selecting them all and going to File > Export Models.

That's not what I mean. That saves them as a "build plate" ie. a single STL of multiple parts; it doesn't do anything to position the parts in a meaningful ie. joined or assembled way. In the example in the OP I want the parts to arrange eg. into a top or bottom half of DS9 for instance:

Rather than as a scattering of components.

Let me make sure I'm understanding what you wish to document as a feature request.

You want the software to know that what you're printing is DS9 and assemble it as DS9 without having been given the correct coordinates to make it into the shape of DS9?

This is really the job of the designer and the design software. Not the slicer.
Personally I don't want my slicer doing the job of a CAD application and taking resources away from improving the slicers main functions.

The only think along the lines of this request that I could see is to expand on the Ctl L and make it so you can not only select the face to put on the bed but select one face to set on another.

The idea being that if you have a cube and a cylinder you could select the bottom face of the cylinder and the top face of the cube so that the cylinder would be placed on the top face of the cube.
