There are multiple requests for textures and Cura's "fuzzy skin". But "fuzzy skin" is something specific to Cura and would definitely look like S3D was just copying features.
What we really need to address all of the cases is either a built-in Displacement Mapping feature or a way to hook in some external pre-processor to apply displacement mapping to any or all surfaces right before slicing. What people don't want to have to do it directly edit the models to apply a texture. While it's not that difficult to do, if you just download models and never actually use a CAD program to make your own, it can be daunting. Even if you do know how to do it, it's still something that could be significantly simplified by allowing some on-demand preprocessing in S3D.
