Setting support extruder - [I wish]

I have been trying to get my flashforge dreamer to use left extruder for print and right for support material for some months now, and as yet I have not been able to achieve this. I think I have tried everything and a bit more. I am slowly coming to the decision that either Simplify 3d cannot do this [which may explain the complete lack of tutorials on this important topic] or something I am doing is wrong... or not doing. The latest attempt was an answer in forum
"1) first, make sure you are using the stock S3D profile (Help > Configuration Assistant)
2) then set the extruder configuration to "Both Extruders"
3) go to the Supports tab and change the support extruder and dense support extruder (if using dense supports) to whatever you want"

This did not work either::( Just in case I tried setting the support extruder in left as right and the next try was setting the right extruder support as right, Again only right printed. I have also tried many .stl files just in case something was wrong with what I was using.

I would appreciate any help to sort this out

Re: Setting suoport extruder - [I wish]

Seeing that nobody can see what you're doing....its kinda hard to advise what you're doing wrong!

Save a factory file of your latest attempt....and attach the factory file (not fff file!!….File menu...Save Factory file as.... ) to a post here....and someone will be able to take a look and give some good advise...as opposed to guessing!

Thanks Doug. I tried to attach to message but at 6.3meg it tells me it is too big  not sure how to proceed now. I did try to shrink it but not much of a change

You must have a very large and/or complex shape loaded. Why not load a much simpler shape that needs support....and try the save & upload again....

Re: Setting suoport extruder - [I wish]

Hoping this is enough. Thanks again for your help. The factory file was my failed attempt to print supports using right extruder. Apologies for trying to send a large file before. I have been trying to print a 50mm garden gnome and forgot just how big file was

I have been slicing for dual extrusion for 2 years and it works fine for me..altought it has some kind of confusion sometimes with the purge tower and with wich extruder to purge, and with first and last layers (sometimes it purges AFTER doing the layer itself), it works fine..

Re: Setting suoport extruder - [I wish]

I think you've made a simple error....

Your object is set to print from the Right extruder....and your support is also set to print from the Right extruder. You have set the dense support to print from the Left extruder....but you've set the number of dense layers to zero.

I think this is your problem.....change extruders as appropriate and you'll get the support printing from the other extruder.

Doug, Thank you so much.As soon as I read your post I realised what I had stuffed up. It is always the simple things when you are learning. I appreciate you taking the time to find out my problem. Living in a small rural town in Aus means it is hard to find help. Look out for a gnome population explosion lol.
