Repair hollow STL model

Sun Jan 06, 2019 9:01 am

I just bought from ebay a sample STL relief model for test printing...

In blender the model has an open surface at the bottom....and somewhere here I read that under the advanced process tab I have to select ""Merge all outlines into a single solid model"...

But the result is rather strange as it adds some additional surfaces....

Has anyone got the same problems with those cheap STL models from ebay?

The problem is not cleared up (for me)

- the model itself is hollow?

- the mesh / solid has issues?

Whats the message, when you run the Repairtool of S3D?

Please show a picture / Hardcopy of the Print Preview bottom side.

If it is a real issue, use online-repair-services like Netfabb. It is always more successful than S3D-Repair.

The mesh is indeed hollow when imported in blender...

Using the repair tools claims about non-manifold segments and self-intersecting surfaces...

Repairing doesn't do anything it seems....

... the S3D-Repair ? So I will believe it, this function is very poor. Try it with NetFabb.

The model is under copy-right? If not, You can attached it, here are many members knowing to help with their special software. Or, when using Win 10, you can import it the MS-3D-tool for repairing.

If there are flipped triangles or surfaces, S3D is very sensible against it and does not slice it in the right manner. Cura or Slic3r are working better in those cases.
