I have been keeping an eye on this thread and i feel a few things should be said to bridge the gap between the community and simplify3D.

How much is this "small" update fee likely to be? you don't need to give a 100% right price but you could give a ball park range you plan for it to be within, what you might feel to be "small" might not be what the community feels to be "small".

How long will the paid upgrade last, before the need for another "small" paid upgrade?

I have watched simplify3D fall way behind other slicers and most of them are free due to the lack of updates and then buggy updates when a new version does come out whats not very often one does come out, it might be of a big benefit to give access to beta versions to speed up the process of gaining feed back and finding real world bugs.

The main worry is, we will pay for a upgrade that will only bring the slicer back on terms with other slicers and then you will fall behind again and we will be faced with another paid upgrade again to get just back on terms with free slicers.

wow. . . 39 days, 12 hours left in their 2019 time frame and STILL nothing form the S3D camp. I wonder how much closer to the release date we need to get before they announce anything?

Counting down the days seems pretty juvenile and petty... Why are you so invested in holding them to releasing at the exact date and time before the new year?

At this point, I think it would be pretty safe to say it would be unlikely for them to hit their initially proposed release date. A small company announcing a new "major" release a year in advance is pretty open to project slip; I believe they had good intentions just missed it as a lot of project plans go. I think they could have gone about it a little better by being a bit more open and frequent with their project updates. As we see many times with Kickstarter campaigns, projects not hitting their deadlines are commonplace, but people who have bought in are much more at ease when the company is open about their updating project timelines.

If they do manage to release this year, that would be a nice treat; however, given the lack of updates/teasers I think we should all expect the new version to come probably early next year. Just my 2 cents

juvenile? yes I will except that, petty not in the least. Since they have insisted that they will release in 2019, and keep insisting! When I purchased my seat it was after they announced the release of V5 in to 2019. I was on the fence about buying software when there were really good opensource software, but decided it was worth the shot with the upgrade coming. I purchased knowing that there was 12 months of upgrades. I have sent e-mails asking if they are going to extend the upgrade period for customers that purchased after the announcement of V5 and have gotten no response! I (as well as anyone who has been following) am well aware that at this point that they are not going to make their 2019 release, but they have not made any announcement saying "we apologize but we have bitten off more than we can chew." instead we keep getting the same response from S3DChris about announcements as the date draws closer. Their silence speaks volumes, and not just on here but my unanswered e-mails as well. We were told that there would be progress updates and we got a joke of an update almost 6 months ago. I think someone if not all of us should hold their feet to the fire for some answers, after all the are expecting US to pay for the upgrade. What happens if they upset enough people who choose not to pay for the upgrade? I can tell you lost revenue that's what. So if I have to resort to being a little Juvenile, then you know what I will be

Oh BTW 36 day 5 hours (and if I were being petty I would include minutes and seconds lol)

I've commented before on this subject I'm having to learn Cura to use my UM2 second head, I cant believe how bad it is to use prime tower used when not needed gcode not showing z heights no available cross section view in y x or z direction when you want to place the dreaded support blockers. Slicer (prusa) version is just as bad, lack of control over bridges the list goes on and on S3D was ahead of its time Prusa and Cura will mold there slicers for there machines the impact will be bad for all of us unless you have a prusa (which I have) and an Ultimaker (again which I have) S3D gives a lot, of features not shown in other slicers I doubt S3D have the backing that Ultimaker or Prusa have, cut some slack guys, go and use the free slicers they are good but not that good, fine if your printing endless models of dragons and god knows what, but if your printing usable models for prototyping, want to insert magnets ect and use 2 or 3 heads S3D runs a mile from the rest. BUT FOR GOD SAKE S3D RELEASE THE UPDATE AND PUT US ALL OUT OF OUR MISERY.

Because I bought Simplify3D license in the first days of january 2019, so I expect to receive at least one free major update during my 1 year free upgrade warranty.

Fair enough, I hadn't realized they were promising 12 months of free upgrades. On your other concern, yes, I agree, it would have been nice if S3D was more frequent and open with their development progress and updates. They have been notoriously very silent in the past, but it does look like they made an effort to improve upon that by having S3D Chris; albeit a slow effort. Even if they miss their anticipated end of year 2019 release date, I think a lot of users who are anxiously awaiting some update on v5.0 would appreciate an honest update with actual substance and maybe a teaser as S3DChris keeps promising.

while I'm as frustrated by the lack of updates and upgrades as the next guy
audryhome wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 3:42 am I this S3D is just playing with its customers, trying freeze their attention off from Prusaslicer and other solutions.
how is the lack of communication feezing attention?

note that, while not liked by community, and while frown upon by ppl who are used to FOSS world, the "no contact" is rather common behavior for many big and successful companies (e.g. ORACLE) .. so why we might hate it, it's a proven model .. and I doubt they care much about FOSS community
audryhome wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 3:42 am I am afraid nothing will emerge soon, and I am considering to move away from S3D to PrusaSlicer and moving all my databases from S3D.
I'm sure nothing important will happen soon and I'm sure that when next release happens it will be far from a "quantum leap"...
Why would you keep all your eggs in a single basket, if you are regularly 3D printing you should be using at least 4 different slicers on regular bases.
audryhome wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 3:42 am Don't mess with customers, especially when you are the only one paid product in an ocean of Open Source software!
S3D is *not* the only paid slicer!!! and that "ocean" of FOSS software is not that big :(
