UPS for 3D Printer?
Do any of you run your 3D printer through a battery backup unit? If so, what size do you use?

The size would really depend on how long you expect power to be out and what temps you are print at. But for printing PLA with a heated bed on a Prusa I3 MK3:
While idle, the I3 Mk3 used 8W of power. To preheat the bed, it used 250W and to preheat the nozzle it used 220W. Again, the consumption dropped a bit when printing began and the I3 Mk3 used 200W. Over an hour it pulled .20kWh.

I assume you are already at temp and want the UPS to keep it running in case of a power loss. If you get a 650VA backup unit it will run for 16 minutes at 200 Watts (0.2KW). If you want APC, pickup a BE650G1 APC Back-UPS 650. It will be around $90 or so.

To add to this.
Look at the UPS as a short term solution for power blips. brownouts, unstable power and brief outages.
Mainly to keep the printer going for these short duration events.
If your power is out for 5-10 minutes then it is probably going to be out for a lengthy amount of time and then you are more into the generator type of solution.
My UPS' have certainly saved many a print from a brief power interruption.
I run these on most of my printers. A little higher cost but heavy duty and seem to hold up to my big printers heating and running.
Remember, the UPS has to be able to handle the draw while the printer is heating even while on AC power or it will trip and shut down.
