make solid object made only of walls

Fri Aug 14, 2020 2:52 pm

Hi, I would like to print the object on the snapshot.
grid.jpg
2 outer perimeters
It is basically made of walls. But the slicing les wholes between perimeters (Grid02), so in the end I have maby squares but not one only grid.
Grid02.jpg
space btween perimeters

I could set only one outer perimeter, this would probably works:
Grid03.jpg
1 outer perimeter and infill

But is here a hidden feature or method to get a solid object using only outer perimeters?

Depends on how thick the walls are. If they're 2mm you should be fine using an extrusion width of 0.5mm and two perimeters.

Change your extrusion width to get the print characteristics you want.

Try changing the Internal Thin Wall Type option on Advanced tab to Allow Single extrusion fill...and vary the Allowed Perimeter overlap to get the best fill.

You won't need to adjust extrusion width for the whole print this way....

It's both a single parameter which has to be changed, so I wonder what the benefit is of enabling single extrusion infill on an object like this?

I created a 4x4 grid using 2.4mm walls.

This is the preview when using auto (0.48mm) on a 0.4mm nozzle:

Single extrusion infill enabled:

Extrusion width set to manual/0.6mm:

Single extrusion infill will close the holes. But it does add quite some print moves/retracts on each layer.

I'd prefer simply adjusting the extrusion width according to wall size (unless it's "out of range" for a given nozzle or other features of the same part require this).

Great ideas for solving these gaps! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure Sil20 has more than enough to go on here. Good luck printing your perfectly filled square grid!
