I'm also shifting towards using another slicer (SuperSlicer) exclusively.
I'll only consider using 5.0 is it's amazingly good and seriously cheap to upgrade to.

I bought S3D in April 2020, expecting that 5.0 can‘t be that far out, and that it will be covered by the mentioned 1-year- span of upgrades. Boy, was I wrong...
Yes, once in a while I pop in here to check to see if anything has happened.
As far as I am concerned Simplify3D 5 is in the same category of vaporware as Duke Nukem Forever. One day, many many years down the road, it may come out, and it will most likely be...disappointing.
Man we are this far into the future and S3D still has no updates. When is someone going to contact the attorney general to identify if they are still doing business in their state. Don't go blaming the pandemic in your next press release. I am fully believe 5.0 is an internet hoax at this point. SAAS Developer Hell has definitely killed everything.
I consider S3D abandonware at this point. I tell everyone to avoid it now. I'm pretty sure V5 was never in the works, they made vague statements to hype up the software for one last surge of purchases before they ultimately just drop it. To be honest I'm surprised their webpage and servers still run.
