Good to know. But be aware - this version installs itself in a different directory from the previous version. This one goes into Program FIles\Simplify3D-3.0.2 and leaves the previous 3.0.1 version alone. So after installing you will have both versions available.

I'm wondering if uninstalling 3.0.1 after installing 3.0.2 will mess up registry entries or other stuff needed by 3.0.2.

If you uninstall after installing the newer version, which I recommend you do to preserve transient data files and give you a route to compare software versions, you get a couple of question boxes. I answered Yes to the first (Do you want to remove the software and all its components?...or something like that!) and No to the second (Do you want to remove the licence from this device?...or similar). The only thing I lost was the desktop shortcut....which took seconds to reinstate.

That is how it has always worked. Every version of S3D that I have ever used worked this way, so no surprise there. I believe it is intentional so that you can always go back to the old version if something goes wrong. They don't want to overwrite everything, so they install in a different folder.

In the future, if you're happy with the new version, then you can just uninstall the old ones. And no, it doesn't mess up any registry settings. This is how it has always worked and it's been fine every time.

Re: v3.0.2 has hit the shelves!!

Thanks for the feedback. 3.01 was my first version of S3D so I was unaware of its update procedure.

I did a plain-old-vanilla uninstall of S3D 3.01 and as you noted the first dialog I got was about uninstalling my license. I selected No of course and then proceeded with the the Step 2 uninstall of the 3,01 software. I checked to see that the entire 3.01 directory was gone and that my 3,02 still functioned OK. The whole process took about 20 seconds. Very nice.

Usually I use Uninstaller Pro to to delete software I no longer use, but this also removes any registry keys associated with the uninstalled software that get left behind by the vanilla uninstall program. Typically there are quite a few of these. But I did not do that with S3D 3.02 since I figured it would be using the same keys as 3.01.
