Pros & Cons of Infill Types?

Lots of infill types is nice, but now I'm wondering about the pros & cons of the various types. Eg: someone recommended Hexagonal for something I wanted to print, however there're both fast and full honeycomb and I don't really know the difference :)

Has anyone done studies of the different types for speed/strength/etc? Particularly from different angles? (seems like crushing honeycomb from sides would be easier than top to bottom.)

Specifically Simplify3D's structures. Some generic studies don't seem to differentiate between the honeycombs for example.

Thanks!

Re: Pros & Cons of Infill Types?

I assume there's some advantage when doing certain prints, mostly in terms of either speed or stability of the print, but I personally haven't really found much advantage to anything other than the default, yet. I've tried the honeycombs, for example, but didn't really see what that brought to the table. If folks have experience with them, I'd be curious to hear about it.

I did a blog post on this a while back.

Print times were all within few percent, so that was not a deciding factor.

I have never seen anything that actually compares strength from different angles, since most tests I have seen just use simple tensile specimens

Personally, I use grid or triangle if I need something really strong. That's a good balance of speed and strength. Seems to be just as strong (if not stronger!) than honeycomb and prints much faster and creates smaller gcode files

OHHHHHH scientific data, I LOVE scientific data!! Now we need you to get all of the different filament types and do some compression and tensile tests with them! That would be EPIC.
