Rasberry PI

I am looking to connect a PI to my i3 printer, and would like to know how stable is S3D on Linux.
Iam wanting to free up my Laptop, and looks to be the way to do just that.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Rasberry PI

Cant say i have ever heard of anyone putting s3d on a pi. Not sure if it will run on it or not. Generally you would put octoprint on the pi and that would run your printer. S3d would just be used to slice your model. I have two printers running this way and it works great

Re: Rasberry PI

Thank you, I wasn't really intending to run the printer from the PI, I can do that via the SD card.
I just wanted to be able to use the Jog controls.
Haven't heard of Optoprint must look into that.

Your inquiry is a little vague, but I am inferring you want to run the S3d program on the RPI. If that is the case, then it will not work. I do not believe it was written in Java, which is CPU independent. I believe S3d was written for x86 CPU's, and not for ARM CPU's like the PI has. If I'm wrong, then it might work...otherwise, you are stuck with only "real" computers.

Octoprint on a RasPi is a beautiful thing.

Re: Rasberry PI

You won't be able to run Simplify3D on the raspberry pi unless the devs compile it for arm architecture, which is quite do-able, but really why would you want to? The bread and butter of simplify3d is its slicing, which be severely bottlenecked by the limited resources of the raspberry pi. If you want to use it as just a print controller there are solutions such as octoprint or astroprint

Re: Rasberry PI

Thanks Guys,
Now I am somewhat clearer on the subject.
I have looked into both Octoprint and Astroprint and have decided to go with the latter as the setup seems a bit easier, I have a PI3b on the way.

Re: Rasberry PI

In my situation I use Shapr3D on the iPad. It would be nice if I could log into the Raspberry Pi to do the slicing until Simplify3D is made for IOS. The reason for this is that I can leave my Pi on all the time where as my pc is not on all the time.
