Bad preview

Hi,

I've designed a part using Fusion 360 and when I slice it with Simplify3D, a part of it is incorrectly filled and has no top layer at all. I get a top layer when I increase the number to 3, but with 2 I've got none. I can't attach it as its size is too big but you can download it here https://files.fm/u/yktsfqe7

I've defined 2 top and bottom layers and 2 shell, filling at 20%.

Filling starts appearing at layer 20 and not on layer 4 like everywhere else.

I've checked the part with NetFabb and there's apparently no problem.

Any idea ?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Bad preview

There are many problems with your mesh. Go to Repair > Identify Self-Intersecting Surfaces and you will see some of them. You can easily see them with the cross-section tool as well. It looks like each of the arms on the outside of the hub were never actually merged with that part of the mesh. So you have self-intersecting bodies instead of a single solid 3D volume.

If you designed the part, just go back to your CAD package and do a proper union between those different features. Otherwise, you can sometimes work around these screwed up meshes in S3D by going to Mesh > Separate Connected Surfaces, but it would be better to just make a proper mesh in the CAD package if you can.

If you have Windows 10 then there's a useful free utility called 3DBuilder, which detects and repairs any errors and issues it finds on loading.
