Serial disconnects in 4.1.1

Mon Dec 10, 2018 10:57 am

Upgraded from 4.0 - prusa clone running a smoothieboard.

Had zero issues printing from USB on 4.0, literally hundreds of prints - 4.1.1 constantly disconnects in the preheating phase.

I had a similar issue with the release of 4.0 but I resolved all the disconnects by making sure my printer was plugged into the same power bar as my computer so they shared a common ground and haven't had a disconnect since so you may try that. Your issue could be different so no guarantee this will work for you.

Edit: I have done the upgrade path to each of the releases since and have had no disconnects in any of them no that printer and computer are plugged into the same power circuit.

I am having very similar issues. Timeouts during pre-heats, build platform being sent out of bounds (grinding the gears), slow platform movements when starting. Not happy at all with this release. I would go back to 4.0 if I could find the installer. I'm using a Flashforge Creator Pro with Sailfish firmware.

So I'm not the only one then.. Also, I've always had the unusual slow platform movements when starting - and they've always seemed completely random.

Slow platform movements when starting could be a result of a slower movement speed being set during the ending of a previous print and the printer's firmware hasn't reset to defaults. A fix for this could be as easy as setting a movement speed in your ending script.

Code: Select all

G1 X0 Y0 F3600 ; move to 0 0 and reset movement speed
As for disconnects, there are options to extend the timeout threshold in the Tools > Firmware Configuration > Communication tab. Also, the common ground mentioned above is a good tip! Without anything else to go on than the communication log you've provided, I'd lean towards trying another USB port / cord, and possibly moving towards using a powered USB hub.

I switched back to 4.0 and things have become much more reliable. I did a few test prints last night and did not see/hear any grinding, platform moved as expected and heating did not time out.
