vase mode

Hi,

version 4.1.1 slices this model differently when comparing to previous versions: https://www.thingiverse.com/download:3333750

vase mode, layer height 0.15mm, 3 solid bottom layers, no layers at the top

see attachment. why is it so? The model looks fine and many people printed it without issues on other slicers. Confirmed Mac and Windows versions of 4.1.1 does it like this. Looks like a bug to me

Oh yes. A bug in the mesh/File.

Re: vase mode

how come other slicers don't have a problem with it? even S3D version 4.0.1?
could you say where exactly the problem is in the STL file? I don't see anything wrong with it

Re: vase mode

Other slicers have always been somewhat tolerant to inconsistencies in the mesh....and S3D has always been very fussy about the mesh being clean. ALL VERSIONS! It has always been like that.....and its probably down to the different way S3D goes about slicing that has always been consistently faster than other slicers.

This is NOT a bug in v4.0.0 or v4.0.1 or v4.1.0 or v4.1.1....or any version!

And I can't help with your second question....my crystal ball is currently having it's 5000 view service.

Re: vase mode

what a great support forum.

yeah of course, Slic3r, Cura, all Simplify3D versions except 4.1.1 are wrong. Even Mesh Mixer is wrong. This model has been checked with multiple mesh fixing apps and slicers, none of them have found any problem except S3D version 4.1.1. Version 4.0.1 is fine

Feel free to play with your crystal balls, enjoy  or consider proving your BS you are tying to tell. for me it's a bug of current version of S3D and I rolled back

no offense, but what you are trying to tell is ridiculous.

Re: vase mode

I confirm, there is a "problem" (I don't dare to say "bug") in 4.1.1 for this model.
I've checked the integrity of stl in Netfabb, no bug in it.
This problem is not present in S3D 4.0.1 or CURA 3.3.1
Problem occurs if one of those options is selected for start points : Use random start point OR Optimize start point.
I set manually the start at the middle of the bed (150,150) and problem disapears.
Everyone will draw the conclusion he wants.
Mine is clear.

Re: vase mode

Yeah thanks for support, finally someone who bothered to test it. Support apready answered that they are able to reproduce it and are up to fix it

I think it is, indeed...

What I take as ridicilous is a noob telling dkightley as one of the most experienced ones here being ridicilous.

My conclusion is, after running that very model through the Netfabb online repair service
it prints quite well with the above mentioned settings in 4.1.1

A good thing is that support can reproduce the problem and will most probably tweak
the settings how their software handles minor mesh defects.
And still, the bug is rather in the model, not in the slicer.
