Solid layer same direction as support

Good morning...

Recently I printed a fan cover for my Ender-3 printer...where I discovered when using the automatic support generation it leaves out one layer totally...and then makes a solid hatch, but in the same horizontal direction as the support layer before....

Should a solid layer not always be hatched diagonally?

Re: Solid layer same direction as support

It took me five minutes to work out that your three screen shots only show a single layer of the model!!!!! Very confusing...and not helpful.

Tahking your screen shots top to bottom....

The direction of the support is governed by the value or values in the Support Infill Angle field in settings.

The "gap" or missing layer is defined by the Upper Vertical Separation Layers setting......and has nothing to do with Auto-generation of supports

The direction of the infill on the first solid layer is defined by the value in the External Infill Angle Offset field in settings.

Re: Solid layer same direction as support

Sorry for confusing screenshots (o;

I have the default settings of +/- 45 degrees for inner and outer infill....
So what defines that it does a horizontal hatch at the first outer layer?
The next solid layer is then done with 1/- 45 degrees...

Do you have the support base layer (or whatever it is called) enabled on the support tab?

No it is set to 0...but if I set to one layer it doesn't change anything...first solid layer is still horizontal....and the next two solid layers are +/- 45 degrees...

Long shot on the support!

Try changing the coloring (on the left of the preview screen) to layer type to see if that reveals anything. I am wondering if you are getting a bridging layer before the real solid layer.

I think we need the Factory file for this slicing. Three single layer simulations is far little information to go on!

Re: Solid layer same direction as support

I used this from thingiverse:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3042208

And within the archive I used the Ender3_Fan_Cover_Side.stl file...

The screenshots were taken at 0.2mm layer, so layer 62 - 64 is interesting....
