Makerbot files

Hi, I've got a makerbot replicator + and replicator Z18 that I'm able to use. However, I've yet to be able to get any files to be recognized from my USB stick. I've tried leaving them alone and changing it to a .print (which they really didn't like. I've also tried to open the saved files with makerbot print and it doesn't recognize them at all. If i rename the file type to .print it can see them but still can't open them. Any thoughts? I've checked and double checked to make sure that Simplify3D is set for the makerbot printers, but it doesn't seem to matter so far. Thanks for any help.
