Will Print time estimates someday improve?

Mon May 20, 2019 10:16 am

Hello

Seen some older posts where people are telling that the print time estimate is off by 25% - 50%...

On my CR-10S I see that actual printing times are 25% - 33% longer on average....
Don't think that this high difference is only due to use the printer via USB serial...

The 4.1.0 release note states:
Print time estimates have been greatly improved by simulating the actual behavior of the printer firmware for increased accuracy
Maybe not all printers are including in this feature?

When printing over serial S3D knows exactly what it estimated and when the printing is actually finished....
so why not readjust the estimates based on previous printing times?

thanks for listening (o;

I don't do many big prints.....3D printing items for 1:450th scale doesn't usually demand so.....but I've recently run a print with an estimated print time of 12 hours 17 mins on my Replicator2 in PLA, from v4.1.2...…

And the elapsed print time from the printer.....12 hours 6 mins.

I know its only one print......but I thought the forum needed some good news for a change!

I had a recent print, Ver 4.1.2, estimated at 127 hours and it actually took 153.

I've always taken the "estimates" to be just that, an estimate, and not very accurate for the most part but gives an idea of the possible time.
