Replicator 1 Dual Clone: Extruding on left extruder moves X axis

I recently bought a (very lightly, ~2h) used Qidi Tech I Dual extruder printer; a Replicator 1 Dual clone. After ensuring everything works with the MakerBot software, I updated the firmware to Sailfish 7.7 (later 7.8 beta) and everything continued to work very well with the MakerBot Desktop software, including dual-extrusions. I'm extremely happy with the printer and the quality of prints it produces. I print exclusively with ABS and HIPS.

Today I bought S3D, because I wanted to give the improvements regarding soluble filaments a try. Unfortunately, when I use the Machine Control Panel / Jog Controls, there is some really dark magic happening that scares the crap out of me:
[*] When I do the same thing (extrude) for the left extruder (Tool 1) the carriage also moves along the X-axis at the same time (towards the right), and the left extruder extrudes much more slowly than the right extruder. When the carriage moves, the position readout doesn't change.
[*] When i jog the X-axis manually, only the -100 button actually moves it to the left (but nowhere near 100 units). The -10 and -1 buttons cause the X-axis to move to the right much faster than seems safe, and the -0.1 and +0.1 button makes a horrible grinding sound. The buttons for +1 and +10 make the carriage move to the right at similarly insane speeds as the -1 and -10 buttons do.
[*] Moving the carriage along the Y axis via jog controls automatically also causes the carriage to move along the X axis.

In ReplicatorG I can move all axis just fine (although I don't print from there because somehow my toolhead offsets don't get respected there and it can't handle high DPI screens very well), and MakerBot Desktop continues to produce very good prints. I'm about to "return" my purchase of S3D, but maybe I'm doing something wrong?

I tried configuring S3D for both the Qidi Tech I as well as the Replicator 1 Dual printers, both behave the same way.

Any other hints / thoughts?

I am seeing the same thing on a Replicator 2x i just upgraded to sailfish firmware. If i connect to the machine and home with tool 0 active all is fine. If i move the tool to the middle of the build platform and extrude 100mm from tool 1 as is fine. When i leave the tools at center and then choose Tool 1 and tell it to extrude 100mm i get 2 motions - The tools extrudes, and simultaneously the tool moves to the right on the X-axis i would say it moves the same amount 100mm to the right while extruding.

The first thing that may be going on is that if you updated the firmware with a non QIDI version of Sailfish then that will cause issues.
There are a lot of results on Google about using the default Sailfish firmware on machines that have a modified version of it.

Also there is a profile in S3D for the Tech-1.
