Outlin/Perimeter Shells value not being respected everywhere

Sun Feb 16, 2020 12:43 pm

Hi All,

I've recently come over to Simplify3d from Cura and have spent the last couple days getting started. I order to get to know simplify3d, I've tasked myself with printing something that Cura has been able to slice for me very well.

However, I'm struggling to get to grips with the 'outline/perimeter shells' setting. So far, I've set it to a value of 3 but as per the preview, I can only see two out-most walls being printed (see attached image)

Any ideas? What I'm after is for the out walls to have 3 shells not the current 2 you can see in the preview. I'd also like the infill area in the 'top layer' to be solid lines and not infill, something I think would be achieved if the settings of 3 perimeter shells was being respected. I suspect there's a setting somewhere that is overriding my outline setting but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is.

Thanks in advance!

The perimeter setting is being applied correctly.

Look at the yellow in the preview and there are three perimeters.

Look at the horizontal and vertical webs in red...… There is not enough room for the slicer to place three perimeter extrusions on BOTH sides...so it has only placed two, and filled the space with infill. If you look at the corners in red....there are three perimeters because there's room to put them.

Its as simple.....and correct...as that!

You can change the behaviour by changing the Internal Thin Wall Type dropdown on the Advanced tab of the settings.
