Slicer adding weird features.

Hey everyone,

Simplify3D seems to be adding some weird features to my model. Here's a screenshot of the model itself and to the sliced output. See the weird webbing on his arm? Anyone have any idea why this would happen?

Re: Slicer adding weird features.

Are you talking about the support structures? The preview picture you posted is coloring the preview by feature type. That means that each color actually corresponds to a different term. There is a legend on the left side that tells you what each is (hint: gray is for support structures)

Re: Slicer adding weird features.

There must be some errors in the mesh for this model that S3D is not able to fully resolve correctly.

Try running the model through this online repair service and see if it solves your webbing issue: https://netfabb.azurewebsites.net/

Alternatively, adding 0.001 to your layer thickness might make the webbing go away!

Turn off Retractions and Tool Moves and screenshot it again so we can see the actual filament that S3D wants to lay down.

Re: Slicer adding weird features.

Hey Chris,

if you uncheck the box "Generate Support" next to the infill percentage, the gray objects under the arms will disappear.
At the category "Advanced" the is a check box "Avoid crossing outline for travel movements Maximum allowed detour factor"
Check this box an set the factor to like 40. This will minimize the travel movements at the outside (red lines).

Hope it will you,

Marcel

The issue Chris is having is quite clear. Its the unwanted web here (the green lines!):

And I think my suggestion will cure the problem......

Haha thanks man, I didn't think people would mistake the support structures as the problem so I didn't specify further, but you're absolutely right. I'll try the .001 layer thickness trick. Now is that to the actual layer height? Or to the number of perimeters?

Re: Slicer adding weird features.

I think he means adjust the actual layer height. For example, if it was 0.2mm, make it 0.201mm. Just a small change can help avoid the problem area.

This worked for me :) THANKS..!!
Both images attached... at 0.2500mm layer height.. and miraculously with 0.2501mm layer height the web disappears :)
