One-way transparent "holes" when importing STL file

Hi!

I'm having trouble with importing an STL file into S3D. When imported, it creates things that look like holes, but can only be seen from one direction (see screenshots below). Because of these "holes" it goes crazy when slicing. Although, no holes of any sort can be seen in CAD. I have also tried healing the holes by merging all outlines into single model and stuff.

It happened to me once before a couple months ago as well, but then I eventually gave up and didn't print the model.

Any help is much appreciated! I have tried restarting and re-importing the file tons of times.

No hole to be seen from this side, except for the hole thats obviously part of the model.

That means the surfaces are facing the wrong way. They talk about it here - https://www.simplify3d.com/support/tuto ... sh-errors/

You could try running the file through the cloud repair service: https://netfabb.azurewebsites.net/

There seems to have been quite a few issues discussed recently where .stl files appear not to be correctly sliced by S3D. I do hope there's not an outbreak of crappy design files!!!

Judging by some of the stuff I've seen on thingiverse, there's always been an outbreak of terrible STLs. It's a bad filetype even for meshes, and worse for trying to represent solids...

I wish STEP was a standard in 3D printing, but I don't have enough programming know-how to come close to helping that along.

There may be an outbreak in Geomagic Design (aka Alibre) use. It is notorious for flipped surfaces and garbage like that. Ask me how I know.
