[FIXED] messed up meshes on s3d exit and re-load

Tue Aug 01, 2017 11:43 pm

I didnt see any posts about this using the search function, so hopefully I'm not creating a duplicate thread. After updating to 4.0, every time I exit S3D with an object on the build plate, and reload S3D the object is missing any faces that werent facing the camera at the time of closing the software and my existing slicing process that was previously loaded is missing on reload as well.

Is anyone else seeing this?

I'm on windows 10 (current updates as of 1 Aug 2010) I deleted my old version 3.1.1 installation and did the "reset all settings" option as well. Nothing seems to fix it.

Here's some images of what I'm seeing. I have noticed that if I clear the build area before exiting first, at least on reload the process will still be there.

p.s. not being able to upload pics directly to the thread kinda sucks

Just wanted to chime in here. S3D4 is shredding the STLs on save. The OBJs come in fine and when I save the factory file the thing is toast. So this is a major bug that is rendering S3D4 unusable. All those new features too. Just in case a mod or S3D4 staff is reading the Mesh comes in with missing faces. I'm not sure if this is because of ZBrush's decimation algorithm but it wasn't happening in S3D3 so something got broken. It may have something to do with the new mesh fixing features, but hey I didn't write the software so I don't know. s3D some help would be awesome.

Here's the pics.

Sorry to double post but I feel this topic needs to be moved forward. I have loaded both S3D3 and S3D4 on a different computers and I'm getting the exact same result. The only constant is that I'm using Nvidia cards in both machines, so it could be a video driver issue but t hat doesn't seem likely as I'm getting the same error: "incorrect binary format detected". So it seems that S3D4 is saving broken STLS to the factory file.

Sadly with all the bugs I'm seeing around the forums, and experiencing myself, I think Version 4.0 Is a version to avoid and to keep using v 3.1.1 until the next release (which, sadly, will probably be another year or two from now considering their previous history with extremely slow updates.) Hopefully people have saved their old installers, otherwise they will be S.O.L since Simplify doesnt offer a repository of previous versions to download.

This is a problem with big/complex STL files, I already opened a thread a week ago: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7882

Thanks for the heads up. I tried searching the forum for an existing topic, but just flat out missed your thread. Yours definitely covers the problem better. I have no idea if anyone from S3D moderates these forums (i always feel like our issues go unheard, but id love to be proven wrong) but if there is a mod i would say he could delete my thread if needed.

I too searched and just found teamcarlisle's thread. If maybe a mod could merge these threads that might help everyone. I'm sure that the S3D crew will work on this problem quickly. Until then I found that if one wants to use the new features in ver 4 just create the processes carefully and then export to SD card. That isn't too bad of a workaround.

I am happy to say that this issue has now been fixed in Version 4.0.1. Thank you for all of the great information that was posted in this thread and for bringing the issue to our attention.

You can download the latest version by logging into your account on the Simplify3D website and proceeding to the Downloads page. There were many other fixes and improvements in this version, so you can view the other changes at the link below:
