To be honest NO software program should fail catestrophically due to some shortcoming in the users hardware/software environment. An error such as this should be caught and dealt with gracefully - not by dumping the user out to the operating system.
From the popup dialog that appears this bug appears to be captured by the operating system. That's too late - the user might have wanted to save their work or something. It's kinda like your car putting up a message that you need to apply the brakes - after you've hit the brick wall.
I'm sure the resolution to this (e.g. extra error trapping) will be easy enough for the author.
