Burned first layer

I'm a new user to this software. It appears like the first layer that's being laid down is burned. I'm printing in Red PLA, and the first layer is REALLY dark, and the outline that it always prints around the print is VERY dark and I have to scrape it off the bed. It comes off in tiny pieces almost like ash. ????

Are you sure you aren't just printing it too close to the bed? Have you tried the stuff mentioned here:
